Garretson Commercial Club Meeting Minutes July 10th, 2024

Regular Meeting at The Gulch

Those in attendance: Carrie Moritz, Garrick Moritz, Bruce Brown, Paetyn Dreckman, Luke Dreckman, Laurie Bennett(via phone), Megan Rollag, Macie Coburn, Susan Haygood, Sarah Beahler, Sam Williamson, and John Brinkman.

12:00 pm Luke Dreckman called the meeting to order. Secretary’s Report – Luke provided minutes from the regular May meeting. Carrie motioned to approve the meeting minutes. Macie seconded the motion which passed unanimously. Megan provided minutes from the June regular meeting. Paetyn motioned to approve the June meeting minutes with a second from Carrie. Motion passed unanimously.

Treasurer’s Report – Kris Johnson provided report in packets for April through May, May through June, and January through June. No questions surrounding the reports. Carrie motioned to approve the April through May report with a second from Macie. Motion passed unanimously. Paetyn motioned to approve the reports for May through June and January through June with a second from Carrie. Motion passed unanimously. Luke included items voted on via email. Kris motioned to approve Garretson Community Scholarship Foundation donation of 4 $25 gift cards with a second from Megan. Motion passed unanimously. Macie motioned to approve moving forward with CPA at Wahlenberg and Ritzman for 990-N filing. Paetyn seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.

Old Business: State Park Signage – Luke advised that the banner has been received and will go up in the next few weeks.

Jesse James Days Recap – Luke gave update on events and weather being a factor. Board talked about downsizing the flyer. John advised 45 entries into the parade and went well. Model train display was down due to FFA food stand locking front doors of school. This group doesn’t usually charge Commercial Club for setting up but due to doors being locked numbers/donations were down. Carrie motioned to donate their standard fee of $400 to make up for the numbers/donations being down. Macie seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. John advised the person that was paid to do the flyover to keep the payment and apply it towards next year’s flyover as he did not attend this year due to the weather. Board decided they would like the money back. Bruce advised the museum was the busiest he had ever seen. Bounce houses saw a decent turn out but weather played a factor.

TAP Grant – Luke discussed TAP Grant and advertising for Jesse James Days next year and possibilities on bringing more activities. Discussed bringing carnival or fair rides in an attempt to attract more people. Luke and Carrie will look into this more for pricing. Luke discussed bringing in a better-known band for the street dance and the option of moving locations every other year if the Commercial Club pays for the band in an attempt to make it fair between Commercial Club members. Megan discussed more events like a movie in the park or a talent show. Discussed having Silver Creek Mavericks next year. Luke went back to street dance topic and discussed a few options to look into. Luke offered to talk with both members on the option of one hosting the street dance every other year or hosting together and the involvement of the Commercial Club going forward. Celebrations – Bruce has museum anniversary celebration on their meeting agenda with thoughts of doing something over Home Town Christmas. Library is hosting an open house with expanded access cards rolling out. Date is to be determined.

Ribbon Cuttings – Luke advised Palisades State Park hosting ribbon cutting for the new entrance July 11th . State Baseball Welcome Bags – Luke advised items are due as soon as possible so the baseball group can put their welcome bags together.

New Business: Hiring Campaign – Luke would like to get a list going on Commercial Club members that are hiring and help promote. Talked about adding page to the website on who is hiring. The concern was around maintaining a website page. Group discussed boosting hiring posts on social media for members and how to communicate the perk.

Fundraiser – Luke asked for ideas on fundraising at Home Town Christmas. Talked about raffling off a larger item or cash. Thought was $10.00 per ticket and selling 500 tickets total. Luke mentioned down sizing silent auction and including a 50/50 raffle.

Other Business: John mentioned golf tournament scheduled for August 2nd Carrie motioned to adjourn with a second from Macie. Next meeting will be held August 14th at The Sports Cabin/Combine
