Split Rock Park
On the Northwestern edge of Garretson, a small waterfall is created by a dam across the Split Rock Creek, drawing the eye and attention of all who cross the bridge into town. Fishing, camping, and kayaking are only a few of the activities enjoyed in Split Rock Park.
Devil's Gulch
In the depths of the red quartzite canyons, a branch of the Split Rock Creek winds through an 18-foot gorge where, in 1876, Jesse James’ horse jumped and helped him escape the posse. Hiking, wildlife experiences, and meditation are only a few of the activities one can enjoy within this park.
Palisades State Park
With rock formations such as King and Queen Rock and Balancing Rock, this jewel in the middle of farmland showcases the beauty of the red quartzite found in the Garretson area. Camping, hiking, and rock climbing are only a few of the activities one can enjoy in this popular South Dakota State Park.
