Garretson Commercial Club Meeting Minutes

February 12th, 2025, Regular Meeting at The Sports Cabin

Those in attendance: Carrie Moritz, Laurie Bennett, Paetyn Dreckman, Luke Dreckman, Macie Coburn, Kris Johnson, Heather Jacobson, Sarah Beahler, Sam Williamson, Chris Fields, Garrick Moritz, and Megan Rollag

12:05 pm Carrie Moritz called the meeting to order.

Secretary’s Report – Paetyn provided minutes from the regular January meeting. Heather motioned to approve minutes with a second from Paetyn. Motion passed unanimously.

Treasurer’s Report – Kris provided treasurer’s report. Discussion was had on members that have not paid annual dues. Paetyn motioned to approve the treasury report as presented. Heather seconded the motion which passed unanimously.

Old Business:

Annual Meeting Recap – Carrie gave overview of annual meeting hosted at the Sportsman’s Club. Budget issues were discussed, and Kris presented the corrected budget voted on at the annual meeting. 

  • VP Appointment – Carrie advised no one selected to Vice President position as of the annual meeting and would like to appoint Laurie Bennett as Vice President. Carrie nominated and requested a board vote. 5 ayes 1 nay. Appointment passed.

2025 Membership List – Carrie presented current list. No discussion was had

Puzzle and Pizza Event – Luke gave update on team numbers. Megan had gift baskets put together for the winners. Going to add 10 $5 Commercial Club gift certificates to baskets. Confirmed bar tenders at the Legion and pizzas from Palisades Oil.

Storage Unit – Carrie gave an update on pricing and availability on units in Garretson. Garretson Self Storage has 5×9 unit available for $30/ month. Discussion was had on organizing and taking inventory of items going into storage. Megan motioned to move forward with storage unit rental pending price from new units being built in town. Sarah seconded the motion which passed unanimously.

Streetlamp Banner – Board discussed progress and Kris offered to reach out to Tim at Performance Press to get an update on graphics to select for the banners.

Celebrations – None

New Business:

    Ribbon Cutting

  • Grace’s Grooming scheduled for February 24th at 10am. Group discussed ribbon cutting for Pasque Medical Massage, Hair We Go, and Split Rock Ag.

Jesse James Schedule

  • Music and Entertainment – Carrie advised of entertainment for Friday/Saturday. Silver Creek Mavericks bid $525 for re-enactment during the parade and on ballfields. Vocal Jam bid $500 for music Friday night. 280 Fifth bid $1,600 for music Friday night for 2-3 hours. Board discussed set up of music Saturday afternoon at the inflatable location. Carrie verified seeing about having 280 Fifth downtown Saturday afternoon and DJ of sorts at inflatables along with Silver Creek Mavericks at their usual location. Megan offered to get pricing on DJ. Vocal Jam planned for Friday night downtown.

Economic Development Update

  • Chris gave an update on projects going on with GED and hopes to collaborate with the Commercial Club in the future. Advised Garretson being advertised in Sioux Falls Visitors Guide and 4 issues of SMGA Growing Places magazine.

All other items will be addressed at next meeting due to time constraints

1:08pm Heather motioned to adjourn with a second from Kris. Motion passed unanimously.

Next meeting will be held at the Palisades Oil on March 12th, 2025
